"I had no idea what ALS
was until my dear friend Lori was diagnosed with it in 2010," shared Kari Fulton, who works as an account manager at Clear Channel Media + Entertainment.
"I then started to realize how many people
there were, in my work and in my personal life, that had been touched by this so-called 'rare' disease."
"This is personal," said Celeste Perry, an on-air host at 103.7 FM. "My brother-in-law was diagnosed with ALS in the spring of 2011. I'm doing what I can for him and am committed to making a difference for everyone whose lives have been forever changed by this devastating illness."
Celeste agreed to lend her voice in a special public service announcement to educate her listeners about ALS, the impact of the disease on those facing it, and to inspire them to join her efforts to make a difference.
"Clear Channel Media and Entertainment, with its 243 million
monthly U.S. listeners, is the leading media company in America with a greater
reach than any radio, digital or television outlet," shared Fulton. "Our stations in the Bay Area alone reach 3.9 million
listeners every week." "I had no idea about what ALS was before I worked on this project," said Ron Hummel, Production/ImagingDirector for KISQ/KOSF who engineered the segment. "It was eye-opening to learn more about it and the impact it had on my colleagues."
Working together, they formed a team for the Napa Valley Ride to Defeat ALS and have started spreading the word to friends and listeners to join their efforts. "We are committed to raising money to support people in our community
with ALS and spread awareness of the urgency to find treatment and a
cure!" said Perry. "It's the ride of someone else's life, and that person for me is my brother-in-law". It was an honor for me to be part of such an important and worthwhile
endeavor - to defeat ALS," said Hummel. "Let's hope this PSA
helps to generate tons of of awareness and donations for the cause!"
"I
have seen first hand the devastating impact of this
disease," Fulton shared. "My friend Lori inspired everyone
with her 'stay strong and be positive’ attitude', I was always
amazed at just how she embraced life and
lived in the moment."
"When Lori lost her three year battle with this
devastating disease, she left behind a loving husband and three
beautiful
daughters. I want to honor her legacy by doing everything that I can to help to spread
awareness about the disease."
