The ALS Association Golden West Chapter Earns
Coveted Four-Star Rating on Charity Navigator

On July 1, 2013, The ALS Association Golden West Chapter was awarded a Four-Star rating from Charity Navigator, America’s largest independent charity evaluator. Only 25% of evaluated charities receive this distinction, which is awarded to recognize sound fiscal management and a commitment to accountability and transparency. This is the first time that The ALS Association Golden West Chapter has earned this top distinction.

As America’s premier charity evaluator, Charity Navigator highlights the fine work of effective, efficient and ethical charities.  In today’s competitive philanthropic marketplace, Charity Navigator is the gold standard in providing essential information to enable donors to make intelligent choices about which charitable organizations to support.

“The ALS Association Golden West Chapter‘s Four Star rating puts it in a very select group of high-performing charities,” according to Ken Berger, President and CEO, Charity Navigator. “Out of the thousands of nonprofits Charity Navigator evaluates, only one out of four earns 4 stars -- a rating that, now, with our new Accountability and Transparency metrics, demands even greater rigor, responsibility and commitment to openness. With this rating, The ALS Association Golden West Chapter‘s supporters can feel quite confident that their hard-earned dollars are being used efficiently and responsibly.”

“We are honored to be recognized with this acknowledgment of our Chapter’s organizational excellence,” said Fred Fisher, President and CEO of The ALS Association Golden West Chapter.  “This rating would not be possible without the deep commitment of our staff and volunteers to ensure that the Golden West Chapter is both effective and efficient with our resources. We will only sustain this rating though continued persistence, vigilance and unwavering dedication to our mission.”

“This highest rating from Charity Navigator is not only recognition of a job well done, it is a badge of excellence that allows us to build relationships with new supporters who can feel confident that we will be good stewards of their investment in our care services, research and public policy programs,” Fisher continued. “We’re especially thrilled about this remarkable achievement because it will help us advance our mission and continue to serve the enormous needs of the ALS community.”

About Charity Navigator (www.charitynavigator.org)

Charity Navigator is the largest charity evaluator in America, and its website attracts more visitors than all other charity rating groups combined. The organization helps guide intelligent giving by evaluating the financial health, accountability and transparency of roughly 5,500 mid- to large-sized charities that garner roughly 50% of all private contributions made in the USA each year (not including houses of worship). Charity Navigator accepts no advertising or donations from the organizations it evaluates, ensuring unbiased evaluations, nor does it charge the public for this trusted data.
