April in the News Graphic

This month "In the News", we highlight some important articles about ALS, as well as interviews and stories about the ALS community and the Golden West Chapter.

  • The Golden West Chapter is deeply appreciative to have been selected as a grant recipient from Tambourine, a new philanthropic organization made possible by the generosity of Ben and Divya Silbermann. This grant will allow the Chapter to assess and address inclusion and access issues faced by people with ALS who live in historically underserved and underrepresented communities in Los Angeles County.

  • We celebrate the winners of the 2021 Sheila Essey Award for ALS Research Award, Jan Veldink, MD, PhD and the 2021 Richard K Olney Clinician/Scientist Award, Paul Sampognaro, MD. Drs. Sampognaro and Veldink will be honored at the American Academy of Neurology’s annual meeting.

  • We are excited to announce that the Golden West Chapter is an official nominee of the Los Angeles Business Journal’s 2021 Nonprofit & Corporate Citizenship Awards!

  • Our thanks to the Palo Alto Weekly for your thoughtful article about Michael Heller, who shared his story about navigating the challenges of high school while his father, Kevin, was battling ALS.
