This will be the team's 22nd Fresno walk. We are the only team that has participated in all 22 walks in the Fresno area. Over the years we have been the Northern California Walk Chairs, advocated in Sacramento and D.C., made quilts, held raffles, silent and live auctions, made television appearances, done radio interviews, participated in bike rides and support groups, put on and participated in golf tournaments, poured ice-water over our heads, participated in breathing, psychological, and blood draw studies, tried to participate in drug trials, and participated in dozens of other walks throughout Northern California. We have laughed and cried, and broken bread with so many families over the years. Patty always had that comforting smile for those that were battling this horrific disease and gave them hope. She was the matriarch of the Central Valley.
21 years ago Patty was diagnosed with ALS. This year we will be walking in her memory as Patty passed on the 12th of April, 2019. Patty will be watching over us to make sure we do a good job of fundraising for this walk. Thank you for helping us reach our fundraising goals.
Why We Need Your Help
Often referred to as Lou Gehrig's Disease, Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) is a progressive, fatal neuromuscular disease that slowly robs the body of its ability to walk, speak, swallow and breathe. The life expectancy of an ALS patient averages 2 to 5 years from the time of diagnosis.
Every 90 minutes a person in this country is diagnosed with ALS and every 90 minutes another person will lose their battle against this disease. ALS occurs throughout the world with no racial, ethnic, or socioeconomic boundaries.
This crippling disease can strike anyone. Presently there is no known cause of the disease, yet it still costs loved ones an average of $250,000 a year to provide the care ALS patients need. Help make a difference and donate or join a walk today.
