Hello Everyone,
On May 12, 2010 My Mother Palmira (Polly) Calderon was diagnosed with "ALS" Lou Gehrigs Disease. It is a catastrophic and uncurable disease, that's progressive and deadly. It makes simple task that we all take for granted increasingly difficult and then impossible as the body's muscles waste away. Task such as walking, swallowing, eating, speaking, using your arms and legs.
She was told that she only has months to live. This Disease hit her hard and fast. She lived fearlessly to get through each day. She was no longer able to walk, had trouble breathing, could barely swallow and talk. Since she was given this life sentence, she had faced this illness with courage and a tremendous amount of Faith in God.
In my line of work I've learned a great deal about human suffering on a daily basis. But with this illness that has been granted toward my mother, I've learned a great deal about another form of human suffering that has humbled me more than I've ever been!
I am participating in an event called "Walk To Defeat ALS" on October 23, 2021. The walk raises funds, creates awareness and gives us a sense of hope. This is where I need your help. I've created a team called "Polly's Faith" in honor of my mother. I'm writing to ask that you to support my team and walk with me and donate to the cause if you are able. All donations go to the "ALSA" organization to fund research to help find a cure, and to provide services to people with ALS. If you are unable to donate I totally understand. All I can ask for is your prayers.
Your involvement in this walk may not have been in time to help my mother, but you have the power to to make a profound difference in the lives of those who come after that are diagnosed with this devastating disease.
I can only pray and ask God to reveal the cure to ALS to the ones who research it.
My mother did not have an easy fight aganst Lou Gerhrig's disaease, and despite all that ALS had taken from her, she managed to keep her faith and hope strong and alive! She didn't want to deal with it, she opened her heart, and her arms to the Lord and accepted His plan for her. On Sept. 5th 2010 the Gates of Heaven opened, and our Savior came to take my mother to her place in Paradise. She is no longer with us in the flesh, but she'll always be with us in Spirit!!
To all those who join me in this walk, I can't thank you enough for walking with me in her honor, and keeping her memory alive!!
God Bless you all,
Marc
