It's been 17 years since my dear father, “Teddy,” died of ALS.
I just remember Teddy as having sooooo much energy!!!!— up early to meet patients, sometimes at 6:30 AM- running upstairs at a fast pace 2 steps at a time- going to dinners or meetings or events most every night- loving his travels— doing and going and enjoying his work as a dermatologist, and just loving life and his family!!!!
AND THEN…. ALS.
My father, Dr. Theodore “Teddy” Sutnick, died from ALS in 2004. Teddy slowly lost his ability to move his limbs, to speak, to eat, and eventually to breathe—while his mind was as sharp as ever and he was aware of everything.
ALS, Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, is a progressive, fatal neuromuscular disease that robs the body of its muscle function. It is unrelenting, as is our fight to defeat it. The Walk to Defeat ALS is much more than a one-day community gathering. It is a movement and a year-round effort to generate significant and necessary revenue that brings help and hope to people living with ALS and their families. Now, more than ever is the time to work together in support of the ALS community.
COVID-19 has impacted so many people, and it has caused physical, financial, and emotional challenges for families facing ALS. Rain or Shine; Pandemic or not- I will be Walking this Fall in memory of my dear father, who loved his family, his work and welcomed friends and life with open arms.
I have been involved with the Golden West Chapter as a Los Angeles Walk to Defeat ALS Team Captain since 2006 and I am a Chapter Advisory Trustee. Your donations ensure access to care management and clinical care telehealth services, loans of durable medical equipment, educational programs, online support groups, and much more, which are all offered at no charge to the ALS community.
Your support has been generous and overwhelming, and I can’t thank you enough, but our fight to defeat ALS is far from over. TEAM TEDDY is committed to raising money to continue funding patient services, research, and to advocate on behalf of the ALS community to find more treatments and a cure.
