Your generosity is critical in the fight against ALS.
The ALS Association Golden West chapter provides valuable direct support to pALS(persons with ALS) and their caregivers. Any donation, large or small, is extremely important as all money raised in Hawaii stays in Hawaii.
Why we need your help.
Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a progressive, fatal neuromuscular disease that slowly robs the body of its ability to walk, speak, swallow and breathe. The life expectancy of a person with ALS averages 2 to 5 years from the time of diagnosis.
Nine years ago, Hawaii had no help for pALS. Because this disease is so rare, many medical professionals had scant knowledge of the specialized care that this disease demands. Caregivers were on their own for information and support. Families were broken up, as patients had to go to the mainland for support.
Now, through the ALSA, we have care managers through out the state, one-on-one visits, multidisciplinary clinics, monthly support meetings, and loan out lockers for medical supplies and equipment. There are seminars where doctors and medical specialists can learn the latest techniques and scientific advancements to treat ALS.
None of this is possible without your support.
Please consider joining our team in the Walk to Defeat ALS® or choose a team member from the list and donate to our cause. If you have a church group, civic organization, or a company that provides matching grants, this is a perfect way to increase support. If you can't be here in person, you could sign up as a virtual walker for Team ALS Ohana and rally your group to raise money in your name.
