The Silicon Valley Virtual Walk to Defeat ALS is being held on October 24th this year. The Walk to Defeat ALS raises funds to support those affected by ALS and to spread awareness of the urgency to find treatments and a cure. I am participating in memory of my brother Mike. He was diagnosed with ALS on 6-17-2006 and passed away on 2-12-2012. He fought the disease courageously, and contributed to the fight as a strong advocate for the ALS Association. Please consider participating and or sponsoring me as we help defeat ALS.
My local Union, IBEW Local 617, has again made a generous donation to the walk. Local 617 has been contributing to the Napa Ride to Defeat ALS since 2006 and for the second year in a row is a recognized sponsor for the Walk as well. Mike was also a member of IBEW Local 617, which makes this all the more meaningful to have them contribute to the walk.
Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a progressive, fatal neuromuscular disease that slowly robs the body of its ability to walk, speak, swallow and breathe. The life expectancy of a person with ALS averages 2 to 5 years from the time of diagnosis. ALS can strike anyone, and presently there is no known cause or cure.
The past few years have brought incredible advancements in ALS research, expanded access to care for people living with ALS, and enabled legislation that impacts the quality of life of people with ALS and their families.
With your help, we will be able to make a difference in the lives of people affected by this disease. The key to a cure begins with you. Thank you for helping me reach my Walk to Defeat ALS® fundraising goal!
Thank you!
