Fundraising through the Walk drives bold and urgent innovation as we march together toward a treatment and ultimately a cure for ALS.

The Local Connection
Your participation in the Walk to Defeat ALS has a direct impact on people living with ALS and their families at the local level. Through education, support groups, access to care and advocacy, we are working to defeat ALS and provide hope to people living with ALS and their families.

CENTRALCAL VIRTUAL Walk Participant Announcements

The Central Valley Walk has gone virtual!

Walk Check-in: All Day
Walk Start: 10:30 AM

Welcome to Walk Day, your way! Check out ways to get more involved below.

Participate on event day in a way that is meaningful and fun for you, your friends, family, colleagues, and neighbors!

Some ideas include:

  • Go for a walk in your neighborhood with a team sign.

  • Count your steps/laps and have people sponsor at a level they’re comfortable giving (a la elementary school jog-a-thons).

  • Use the Charity Miles app to track your steps- they make a contribution to nonprofit organizations designated by app users.

  • Do a "Chalk your Walk" campaign by writing ALS awareness messages on your sidewalks with colored chalk.

  • Wear your favorite team or walk t-shirt; challenge others to join you online from anywhere in the world in the virtual camaraderie of the day.

  • Post a photo or short video explaining why you walk and/or who you walk in honor of, or in memory of.

  • Post a memory from a past Walk Day!

  • Print out these Alumni Stickers and celebrate how many years you’ve participated in the Walk to Defeat ALS

  • Invite your team to decorate their cars, window paint, balloons, streamers and do a car parade around town.

  • Join along on your own Social Media Channels and do your own Virtual Fundraiser with us

  • Do a FB Live Posting letting your community know you are participating in the Virtual walk

  • Encourage your community to join you in posting on their channels the day of the event!

  • Have a competition with your friends/family on smart watches!

Don't forget to post photos and videos to your favorite social channel, tag @alsagoldenwest and use hashtag #WalktoDefeatALS.

Here's how you can get started NOW and make an impact for the ALS community:

1. Make a self donation. A gift of any amount goes a long way, especially right now, and lets others know how very invested you are in this cause.

2. Send emails to your supporters asking them to register as Virtual Walkers and to donate.

3. Start a Facebook Fundraiser and share it with the hashtags #WalktoDefeatALS and #NeverGiveUp

4. Customize your participant page by sharing your story. Why do you “walk”? You can add a photo, logo, or video, too!

5. Recruit others to join your team for the largest annual gathering of the ALS Community in the Central Valley!
