Update September 11th, 2021: 20 riders including some ALS Ride regulars joined us for our last training ride at Crystal Springs before the big event next week. We finished up at Devil's Canyon Brewing Company after everyone tallied 23 to 46 miles. There was a live band onsite for the San Carlos Horsepower Car Show. Riding weather was perfect and I think the miles we logged will ready make things easier for folks next week. Oh, and Team Hathaway just hit our fundraising goal of $25,000!

Update July 10th, 2021: Our biggest training ride ever! Seems like people are really feeling motivated to get our there this year. There was a short course (23 miles) and a long course (32 miles). 20 people showed up and most stuck around for a pint and some food on the huge outdoor patio at 21st Amendment Brewing. What a great day.

Update May 8th, 2021: We did a full circuit of San Francisco for our ride today and finished up at Harmonic Brewing in Dogpatch. Perfect weather, beautiful day, and we passed by so many current and past Hathaway Dinwiddie building projects.

Update April 2nd, 2021: We finished our first test run of a training ride two weeks ago, rode the new bike lane on the San Rafael Bridge. What a beautiful day. The food truck and beers at Armistice Brewing in Richmond were very welcome comfort after 38 miles.

Update September 26th, 2020: The virtual ride was actually very impressive. A group of us met at the Alpine Inn and rode all they way down to the water's edge in Mountain View. A great ride and a monumental amount of work for the ride organizers to develop and deliver today's new format.

Update September 11th, 2020: The yard sign works! It's brought in $140 in donations from different neighbors. We're two weeks away. My ALS Ride jersey arrived today and it looks great, my wife loves it, too. Time to make that final push for fundraising.

Update July 19th, 2020: Bikes and Brews: Lagunitas! We got a small group together for a training ride that allowed us to maintain social distancing and still enjoy a meal and beer on the outdoor patio at Lagunitas in Petaluma. I haven't been there in about 8 years and their expanded patio is even more amazing now than it used to be. We got in a great 30 miles through the dairyland West of highway 101. It was a beautiful ride and a nice escape into the countryside for a day.

Update March 14th, 2020: Bikes and Brews: La Loma de Los Gatos: With three first-time riders we managed 30 miles from Los Gatos to San Jose airport and back. (for all three it was the longest they had ever ridden in their life!) We had a wonderful meal and some tasty beers at Loma Brewing to wrap up the day. I think a few of us savored the experience a little extra as we had an idea it would be our last group ride for awhile, and then the Bay Area shelter-in-place started just 2 days later.

Update December 14th, 2019: Bikes and Brews: A Raiders Farewell. On the day before their last game at The Coliseum, we rode through the heart of Raiders Territory, Oakland, San Leandro, and past their headquarters in Alameda. Finished it off with some tasty beers at Cleophus Quealy.

Update September 21st, 2019: We did it again, and beat the old record. This time we surpassed $1.1 Million! Hathaway brought out their biggest team ever to help the efforts. Great day and great weather for a good cause.

Update September 7th, 2019: Bikes and Brews: Crystal Springs Edition 16 people showed up for perfect cycling weather and we had a great ride. What a great bike path along both reservoirs. Most of us had no idea about the Pulgas Water Temple (photo above), it was a fun surprise. This was our last training ride before the big day, and I was really glad to get these 40 miles under my belt. I'm feeling a lot more ready for Napa.

Update August 23rd, 2019: Bikes and Brews: Crystal Springs Edition The route is set and we're getting ready for our last training ride on September 7th before the big event. Hope to see another big group. I've been hearing about Crystal Springs being a very pretty ride for a couple of years and I'm glad we'll finally get to check it out.

Update June 8th, 2019: Bikes and Brews: East Brother Edition - Great day and an amazing turnout for our 11th group training ride. Boy did the beers at East Brother Beer Company taste delicious after 28 miles in the heat. The grub at the Curbside Kitchen food truck was awesome, too. Thanks to everyone who came out, and thanks for all the photos. Our fundraising efforts are finally getting rolling and we're over $1,000 for Team HDCCo.

Update March 30th, 2019: Bikes and Brews: 2 Many Bridges Edition - A beautiful day for riding and a beautiful course. That's just what we needed to make this challenging circuit across the Carquinez AND Antioch bridges achievable. Can't wait to do this one again.

Update December 1st, 2018: We Googled it! Our first training ride in preparation for 2019. A few dedicated souls came out to ride through Silicon Valley in the rain. We went through Palo Alto, Menlo Park, and Mountain View. It was nice to finish the ride at Freewheel Brewing where their traditional style British brews really helped warm us up.

Update September 22nd, 2018: Another first class event with a ton of dedicated riders. Congratulations to the ALS Golden West Chapter for achieving the amazing goal of $1 MILLION DOLLARS raised for ALS research and care. I'm already looking forward to next year's ride and hoping we can achieve the same results again.

Update September 23rd, 2017: Finished another great 100km ride! Team was huge this year and donations were plenty. So glad my wife, Oriana, and sister-in-law, Victoria, decided to join and come along. The last 15 miles felt tougher than last year. I could blame the wind, or maybe I just have to train a little more. Thank you to everyone for all of your support.
