My name is Evelyn Payne and I have had amyotrophic lateral sclerosis for 19 years ,since October 2002. this disease robs you of all your muscles . I am thankful that I still have my smile and I use my eyes for the computer . I always lived a healthy lifestyle with exercise and a healthy diet . I was diagnosed at 37 years and there is no known cause . I have been living in a nursing home for 9 years , since I got the tracheotomy and g tube . I wish I recorded my voice . But thanks to my Tobii Dynavox computer , I can talk and play cards, read books and play bingo. And I keep in touch with my friends on facebook . I am enjoying life .But I pray for a cure and the day that I can hug my family. Germany , Spain and China are making progress with stem cells . It's time for our country to make miracles happen .California is making great progress with stem cells. They can stop the progression. Now they are working on rebuilding the Stem Cells.
Why I Ride...
I will be participating in The ALS Association Golden West Chapter's 15th annual Napa Valley Ride to Defeat ALS and Walk. I ride to support those affected by Lou Gehrig's Disease and to spread awareness for the urgency to find treatments and a cure.
What is ALS?
Often referred to as Lou Gehrig's disease, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a progressive, fatal neuromuscular disease that slowly robs the body of it's ability to walk, speak, swallow and breathe.
