Napa Valley, California -June 30, 2012
The 8th Annual Napa Valley Ride to Defeat ALS and Walk on Saturday, June 30, 2012 was an extraordinary day filled with the hope and action needed to conquer Lou Gehrig's Disease. Now a state-wide event, the four California Chapters of The ALS Assocation- Golden West, Greater Sacramento, Orange County, and Greater San Diego Chapters -joined together to collaborate on this fundraising and community building event.
"This year's Ride to Defeat ALS is an opportunity to bring all of California together," said Fred Fisher, President and CEO of the Golden West Chapter. "With our voices united and heard over a wider area, each donation will have a greater impact throughout the state."
Originating at the Yountville Veteran's Home, the event had over 470 participants over four different cycling routes (100, 60, 25, or 10 miles) and one walking route (2 miles). At the end of their ride or walk, participants returned to the Veteran's Home picnic grounds where they were treated to a delicious lunch, complementary massages, special team photo opportunities, and a chance to be together.
"By participating today, you have joined of a group of compassionate,
committed, and relentless individuals in the fight to defeat ALS." said Ride co chairs Matt Chaney and Phil Thomas, "We couldn’t have done it without
you."

Your dedication ensures that people living with ALS and their families have access to care manager services in their homes and local support groups in their communities. Your generous contributions provide special opportunities like equipment loan pools and other regional programs. Your steadfast advocacy on state and federal public policy initiatives that are improving the lives of people living with Lou Gehrig’s disease.
"The impact of your efforts is felt throughout the entire ALS community, as we are part of a nationwide network of chapters united with the same vision - a world without ALS. As the only national not-for-profit health organization dedicated solely to the fight against ALS on all fronts, we give help and hope to those facing a devastating disease. Every year, we are able to invest millions of dollars in research conducted by the best and brightest scientists in the world. Each day, through our care services, advocacy, education and support, we help empower those facing ALS to live fuller lives.
On behalf of all of the California Chapters of The ALS Association and people that we serve, thank you for your commitment and continued support."
