2011 "Runs for ALS" campaign knocked expectations out of the park.

- By Jenica Lancy, Director of Marketing and Communications

Our deepest thanks to the members of Lafayette Little League, who have completed their 3rd year of the Runs for ALS program.

Created in 2007 by board members Matt Chaney and Brian Griggs, teams contribute 50 cents for each run they score throughout the season. You can watch the original presentation made at Chaney Field, renamed in 2008 by the City of Lafayette to honor Chaney's many years of service with the Little League.

Various chapter banners hung on at Chaney field through out the season. This year, three of the four divisions keeping score participated, comprising about forty-five teams in LLL, approximately 250 players aged 9 to 12 participated in this campaign raising over $6800. To date, this grassroots campaign has raised over $10,000 for ALS research initiatives and local care services.

"Craig Bocks, parent and coach, and board member of LLL, spearheaded this year's effort." said Matt Chaney. "He really took the lead and drove the effort this year."

Chaney expressed the following:

"The LLL community has been extremely supportive of my battle with ALS and my efforts to raise awareness and donations for several years and there just aren't enough ways to express my deep appreciation and thanks for the continued support. My family and I are extremely lucky to be able to live in what we feel is the center of the universe. We truly do love Lafayette and
all the wonderful families who have made living with a fatal disease a lot easier.

As a Director on the Board of the ALS Association Golden West Chapter, which covers31 counties in California, I can assure you your donations will be spent on ALS and ALS only. The ALS Association (ALSA) is devoted to creating a world without ALS and focuses only on ALS. A
portion of all the donations we receive will go directly to research and the rest funds our programs in Care Services,  as well as Local and National public policy. Thank you, thank you, thank you Lafayette Little League. Your donations will make a difference in the lives of hundreds of families living with this devastating disease!"

Our thanks as well to Craig and to the LLL Board of Directors, managers, coaches, families, and the players for stepping up to the plate to help to defeat ALS.
