Grammy-winning rock band TOTO

Longtime bass player for Grammy-winning rock band TOTO, Mike Porcaro died early Sunday morning, March 15, following a battle with ALS at the age of 59.  Mike was diagnosed in the mid-2000s and was forced to stop touring with the band in 2007.  He was an incredible performer who inspired the world, first through his music, and then through his courageous battle with ALS.

Mike was diagnosed in the mid-2000s and was forced to stop touring with the band in 2007. He started receiving services from our chapter  in 2008.  Mike, his brother Steve, along with other members of the Porcaro family and many friends have been long-time supporters of the Los Angeles Walk to Defeat ALS. Since 2009, they have directly raised over $25,000.

In 2012, the band TOTO went on tour to raise funds and ALS awareness, partnering with several ALS Association chapters in cities where concerts were held.  Through “TEAM TOTO”, they provided VIP tickets to the chapters, which included a band meet-and-greet, and chapter staff were on hand at the concerts to provide people with information about the disease and the Walk to Defeat ALS.

The ALS Association and the Golden West Chapter extends our heartfelt sympathy to the Porcaro family. We are grateful to Mike for bringing so many others along with him in support of the mission of The ALS Association.
