Emmy/Golden Globe Nominated Actor Rob Morrow and noted guitarist Carlos Calvo
to perform at the Inaugural SoCal Ride to Defeat ALS on Saturday, July 21, 2018

07/16/2018–Newbury Park, CA

The ALS Association Golden West Chapter is excited to announce special musical guests Emmy/Golden Globe Nominated Actor Rob Morrow featuring noted guitarist Carlos Calvo of the Rob Morrow Band will perform at the inaugural  SoCal Ride to Defeat ALS and Run/Walk/Hike on Saturday, July 21, 2018, at Dos Vientos Park in Newbury Park, California.

Rob Morrow is well-known for his nuanced acting on hit shows Northern Exposure (which garnered him three Golden Globe and two Emmy Award nominations), Numb3rs, Billions, Entourage, American Crime Story: The People Vs O.J. Simpson, and Designated Survivor, and films including Mother, Flint, The Bucket List, and the Academy-Award nominated Quiz Show. In early 2017, Morrow formed his band with his friend and songwriting collaborator, Carlos Calvo, a noted Hollywood Film & TV guitar coach whose students include Adam Levine, David Duchovny, Ambyr Childers, Gethin Anthony, Marg Helgenberger, David Oyelowo, and many others.

"My dear friend, Jenifer Estess, was diagnosed with ALS in 1997 and started Project ALS to raise awareness and money to eradicate the disease, “ shared Morrow. “It was heartbreaking to watch her navigate the challenges of ALS and, after a long hard fight, she died in 2003. I’ve been on the board of Project ALS for over ten years,  but this is my first event in partnership with The ALS Association Golden West Chapter. I am proud to lend my voice to this cause and am deeply committed to the supporting the ALS community. I can confidently say that, with the research I have borne witness to, there will be a cure for this disease in my lifetime."

Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), also known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease, is a fatal, neurodegenerative disease that attacks nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord.  ALS does not discriminate -- women and men of all ages and backgrounds are at risk, though for unknown reasons veterans are diagnosed with ALS twice as often as civilians.  People with ALS lose their ability to move, speak, swallow and eventually the ability to breathe, while all five senses continue to function normally. Currently, there is no known cure for ALS.

“It is only together that we will defeat ALS, and the many efforts of people like Rob Morrow are a great example of that dedication and determination.” said Fred Fisher, President and CEO of The ALS Association Golden West Chapter. “It is essential that we collaborate to increase awareness and funding to advance our global research projects, our care services programs,  and our public policy initiatives – all of which play key roles in the search for effective treatments and cures for this devastating disease.”

The inaugural SoCal Ride to Defeat ALS and Run/Walk/Hike on Saturday, July 21, 2018, at Dos Vientos Park in Newbury Park, California. Registration opens at 7:30 am, followed by staggered start times depending on the route. This one-day community outreach event is open to the public and all of the funds raised will support of the interdependent mission priorities of The ALS Association Golden West Chapter in care services, public policy, and research. Participants are invited to join us for a family-friendly morning of celebration, exercise, education, awareness, music, food, and fun!
