On
Thursday, June 5, 2014, The ALS Association Golden West Chapter will host an unforgettable
evening celebrating progress, promise, and passion.
“A Night
at The Esseys: An Evening Dedicated to Conquering ALS” will take place
at the famed Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel’s Blossom Room, home to the first
Academy Awards. This magical evening will celebrate the glamour of Hollywood’s
Golden Age with a live orchestra, red carpet arrivals, cocktail reception, special musical and celebrity
guests, a live and silent auction, gourmet dinner and dessert.
The
Essey Awards are the Golden West Chapter’s highest honor, named for one of the
Greater Bay Area Chapter’s founders, Richard Essey. These awards are
presented annually to esteemed members of the ALS community for their outstanding
efforts in research, philanthropy and public awareness. Our 2014 Essey Award honorees include the following dedicated members of the ALS community:
Commitment to A Cure Award Frank Bennett, PhD, ISIS Pharmaceuticals Don W. Cleveland, PhD, UCSD Richard A. Smith, MD, Center for Neurologic Study
Legacy Award Gary Cooper, Academy Award-Winning Actor(1901-1961)
Spotlight Award Scott and Annabel Lew, ALS Advocates Mark Amin, Founder and CEO, Sobini Films
The Golden West Chapter currently serves
1200 people living with ALS and their families in 31 counties in California and the state of Hawaii. Proceeds from the gala will provide critical funding
for The ALS Association Golden West Chapter’s mission in the areas of care services, public policy, and cutting edge ALS research –bringing us closer to our vision – to create a world without ALS.
