Music legend Richie Sambora will ROCK ALS at Champions for Care and a Cure in San Francisco

June 23, 2017 - San Francisco, California

The ALS Association Golden West Chapter has announced that American rock icon Richie Sambora will dedicate a special performance to the ALS community at the 2017 Champions for Care and A Cure celebration on Thursday, July 13, 2017 at the Fairmont San Francisco.

Richie Sambora

As both an acclaimed solo artist and a founding member of multi-platinum, Grammy-winning band Bon Jovi, Sambora has sold over 140 million albums worldwide and has co-written over 20 Top 40 hits and 11 Top 10 hits, including Livin’ On A Prayer, You Give Love A Bad Name and Wanted Dead or Alive. He was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2009 and Europe’s Music Hall of Fame 2006. In addition to his work with Bon Jovi, he has released three acclaimed solo albums that have highlighted a more personal and intimate side to Richie’s songwriting.

A dedicated philanthropist, Sambora has lent his vocals and support to important causes and organizations. He was recently called a “techpreneur” after founding Csnaps.org, the first humanitarian platform of its kind that creates powerful connections between celebrities, fans and charities to raise funds for important causes. He was inspired after reading about the “selfie” Ellen Degeneres snapped with her A-list friends at the 2014 Academy Awards. If sold, that image could have raised close to a billion dollars. He then questioned why something couldn’t be done to create a way for those funds to in turn be donated for those in need.

“Over the last 30 years that I have spent entertaining our troops, I was so shocked to learn about the increased risk of developing ALS that veterans face,” said Sambora. "I am impressed with The ALS Association Golden West Chapter and their forward momentum in the search for effective treatments and a cure for ALS. There is great potential in our new Csnaps partnership to come together in support of the ALS community."

At Champions for Care and a Cure, Sambora will not only attend and perform but also present the first live Csnaps Gratitude Lounge, where fans can participate and have their photo taken with the rock legend. Attendees are encouraged to download the Csnaps app prior to the event. Proceeds from Champions for Care and a Cure and Csnaps will provide funding for The ALS Association Golden West Chapter’s mission priorities in care services, public policy, and cutting-edge global research toward effective treatments and a cure for ALS.  Platinum Sponsors are Cytokinetics, Inc. and MT Pharma America, Inc.  Gold Sponsor is Mallinckrodt Pharmaceuticals. ABOUT ALS

Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), also known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease, is a fatal, neurodegenerative illness that affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord. The average life expectancy of a person with ALS is two to five years from diagnosis. As the disease progresses, people with ALS lose the ability to walk, move, speak, swallow and, eventually, to breathe– all while the mind and senses continue to function. Veterans are at twice the risk as those who have not served in the military. Currently, there is no known cause or cure for ALS.

ABOUT THE ALS ASSOCIATION GOLDEN WEST CHAPTER:

Our vision is to create a world without ALS. Our mission is to discover treatments and a cure for ALS, and to serve, advocate for, and empower people affected by ALS to live their lives to the fullest. The Golden West Chapter serves people with ALS and their families in 31 counties throughout California and in the state of Hawaii. For more information about The ALS Association Golden West Chapter, please visit us at www.alsagoldenwest.org or email us at info@alsagoldenwest.org
