Fundraising on Facebook

Facebook now allows people to create do it yourself (DIY) fundraisers to help support their favorite organizations and causes. Now you can ask your Facebook friends to support your efforts to the fight against ALS and support The ALS Association Golden West Chapter by following these easy steps!

BIG NEWS! This year, Facebook is partnering with PayPal to match donations a total of up to $7 million to U.S. nonprofits on Facebook. Donations will be matched dollar-for-dollar, on a first-come, first-served basis, up to $250k per nonprofit and $20k per donor!

Facebook and PayPal will start matching donations at 5:00 am PST (3:00 am HST) on Tuesday, November 27 and will expire when the match is reached or at 11:59 pm PT/HT. Facebook will send you an email after November 29 to let you know if your donation or fundraiser was matched.

Even after the match is met, every donor and every dollar will help make an impact and will increase awareness and support for our ALS community!

Creating a fundraiser or adding a donate button to a post is easy! Here is a quick link so you can get started or you can make your gift through one of our existing Golden West Chapter’s Fundraisers!

How to add a donate button to your posts

Step 1: Log in and create a post

Log in to your facebook account and start to create a status update or personal post.

Step 2: Make it personal

Share why the fight against ALS is meaningful to you and how donating to The ALS Association Golden West Chapter will have an impact for those living with this disease. If you want gift to be designated to a particular event, team, or participant, please make note of this. Otherwise, all gifts will be made as general contributions. Always use the tag @alsagoldenwest and the hashtag #ourALScommunity.

Step 3: Connect your post to us

Click the "Support a Nonpofit" button at the bottom of your post and select "The ALS Association Golden West Chapter".

How to set up a fundraiser page

Step 1: Log in and connect to us

Log in to your facebook account and the visit The ALS Association Golden West Chapter’s Facebook page.  If you haven't already, be sure to "like" us!

Step 2: Create a Fundraiser

You can either click on the "Create a Fundraiser Page" button at the top of the page, or use the left navigation to so to the "Fundraisers" section and select the "Raise Money" button. This creates a shareable page that you’ll soon customize with a title, a goal amount, and an end date.

Step 3: Personalize your page

Share your reasons why the fight against ALS is meaningful to you and how donating to your fundraiser will have an impact for those living with this disease. If you want your fund to be designated to a particular event, team, or participant, please make note of this on your donation page. Otherwise, all gifts will be made as general contributions. Always use the tag @alsagoldenwest and the hashtag #ourALScommunity. Finally, fill in your goal amount.

Step 4: Select a Photo

You can upload your own photo to personalize your fundraiser. After you select the photo you want, click “Done.” You’ll have the option to move or crop it.

Step 5: Go Live

Select “Create” to publish your fundraiser and share it to your Facebook timeline.

Step 6: Spread the word!

To reach as many of your friends as possible, be persistent! Make sure to post your fundraiser at least a few times before your end date approaches. Always use the tag @alsagoldenwest and the hashtag #ourALScommunity. Here are two ways to follow up:

  • Open your fundraiser page and click the “Share” button. From there, choose to either post it on your timeline again (and tag your friends) or send it in a private message.
  • For those friends who may not visit Facebook often, copy and paste the URL into an e-mail.
