Jim Tracy, the inspirational track coach at San Francisco University High School (UHS), lost his courageous battle with ALS. Jim touched countless lives during his remarkable coaching career, spanning two decades and 40 seasons at UHS.  His dedication to the student’s success helped the UHS team win 10 state cross country titles in 19 seasons and four straight California Division V titles from 2009-2012. These successes led to Jim’s induction into the San Francisco Prep Hall of Fame in 2013.

Jim’s leadership, grit, determination and his students powerful will to “finish”, led to the creation of an award-winning documentary "Running for Jim".  The film tells the inspiring story of this record-breaking high school running coach and his battle with Lou Gehrig’s disease, as well as the historical events that brought his 2010 championship team to international attention.  It also served as a tribute to Jim’s career through the eyes of colleagues, family, and runners, and provided deep insight and awareness of the realities Jim faced while living with the disease.

The legacy that Jim leaves to the world and to the ALS community is to "never give up", no matter what the challenge.
